The agricultural community of Granger is notable because of its brick Davilla Street, the community’s main avenue. This street was paved with bricks in 1912, a feat that the Granger News said made Granger “the only city in the state of less than 5,000 inhabitants that has paved streets, or is paving them.”
Today, Granger still has far fewer than 5,000 residents and Davilla Street is still paved with red bricks. You’ll find the town divided by railroad tracks with a few businesses both east and west of TX 95. Granger’s small town charm has been recognized by the entertainment industry, serving as the location for movies Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 2003 and True Grit in 2010.
