Best Things to Do in Baytown, Texas

Please share!

With a slogan as the place “where oil and water really do mix,” you just might guess that Baytown was built on the oil industry. And you’d be right. The city continues to be very active in the petrochemical industry but it features several attractions for travelers as well.

Located on the mouth of the San Jacinto River, this community began as a store and a sawmill. In 1822, the Lynchburg Ferry was established to convey passengers and goods across the waterway.

Today the town is active in the petrochemical and oil refining industries and offers tourists plenty of watersports fun ranging from sportsfishing to birding.
