Lake Brownwood State Park. On the shores of 7,000-acre Lake Brownwood, created in 1932 by a dam on Pecan Bayou, this park lies 16 miles north of Brownwood. The park spans more than 500 acres with three miles of trails for you and your dog to explore. Take Fido fishing, picnicking, hiking, boating and camping. 200 State Highway Park Rd. 15.

Brown County Museum of History. Housed in the historic Brown County jail building this museum explores the history of Brownwood and the surrounding area. One exhibit remembers Camp Bowie which functioned as a POW camp during World War II. 212 North Broadway.
Gordon Wood Hall of Champions Museum. Enter this sports-minded museum through a reconstruction of a football locker room, then move through exhibits honoring legendary high school coach Gordon Wood and varsity sports at large. 600 E. Depot St.
Martin & Francis Lehnis Railroad Museum. This museum traces the importance of the railroad in the history of Brownwood and the American Southwest. Expect to see model trains, railroad equipment, a photography exhibit and vintage train cars. 700 East Adams.
