Founded in 1915 on the ranch of George Washington West, the town of George West developed into an important cattle town. Today the community, located near Three Rivers, is a favorite with hunters thanks to its large whitetailed deer population and is the seat of Live Oak County.

Buck West House. This historic house (pictured, right) was once the home to a nephew of George Washington West; today it houses the city’s Chamber of Commerce office. Located at 400 N. Nueces.
Grace Armantrout Museum. Cultural and domestic artifacts from the town’s history are featured at this museum, most of them collected by longtime resident Grace Armantrout. One half mile South of George West on S. Hwy 281.
