Balcones-CanyonlandsLago Vista lies on the north shore of Lake Travis along RM 1431. With a name that translates as “Lake View,” it’s no surprise that many homes in this small community have views of Lake Travis.

Lago Vista is called the gateway to the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, a preserve that protects two endangered species. Along with hikes and birding at the refuge, nature buffs also find many opportunities at Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) parks in the region.

You can taste their award-winning creations after a guided tour of the winery on weekends. Six miles west of Lago Vista at 24912 Singleton Bend Rd.

Lago Vista Airpower Museum and Library. You might not think a small community like Lago Vista would have its own private airport but it does, and a fairly busy one at that. Here, you’ll find the Lago Vista Airpower Museum and Library which showcases military aircraft through model plane displays, many photos, and various other displays. The museum is open some Saturday afternoons from 1 – 5 p.m. or by appointment.
