Mayfest
Fort Worth, Texas
When: early May
Where: Trinity Park in Fort Worth
Join the crowd of 200,000 – 500,000 who gather each year on the first weekend in May for Cowtown’s oldest, family-friendly festival.
Events: Festival attendees can race for first place in the 10K, 5K or 1K Fun Run, or discover their inner athlete in the Sports Area, where families can slolum down the world’s largest inflatable slide and conquer the rock climbing wall and obstacle course. The Riverbank Area offers water-themed wonders, including aqua golf and a water balloon launch, and those inspired by the kayak and rowing demonstrations can rent a canoe, kayak or paddleboat for an afternoon excursion along the Trinity River.
After grabbing a bite to eat at one of the 25 concession stands, browse among 60 booths brimming with artwork and handcrafted items for a souvenir of the day, then head toward one of the six stages to cheer on their favorite amateur musicians as they vie for supremacy in the Battle of The Bands, or groove to tunes played by a nationally-known act.
Children’s Activities: Storytellers weave tales for the entertainemnt for Lone Star little ones in the Children’s Area, where activities at over 25 booths help potential Picassos to create works of art with spin art or crayons at the coloring station. Musically-minded munchkins can make their own instruments, while animal lovers can build a bird feeder, make a new four-footed friend at the petting zoo or on a pony ride.
Texas teens can pretend to be urban cowboys as they ride the mechanical bull at The Zone, an area for adolescents that also offers paintball and Euro bungee.
