For three days every April, the sands of time will shift back to those carefree childhood days when warm weather meant constructing fairytale castles on the beach at the dog-friendly Port Aransas Sandfest. A throng more than 100,000 strong gathers at one of the nation’s largest sand sculpting competitions to:
- watch skilled sand sculptors as they bring their A game to Port A
- cheer on novice sand artisans who have signed up for the amateur sand sculpting competition.
- release their inner artist during a free sand sculpting lesson.
- tap their feet to the beat of live musical performances.
- mull over merchandise displays at arts and crafts booths.
…and much more!
Admission is charged; Children 11 and under free. Dogs must be leashed. If your dog doesn’t do well with crowds, schedule a visit in the days following Sandfest, when we enjoyed a look at the beautiful sculptures with our dogs–and without the crowds.
Where: On the beach at Mustang Island in Port Aransas (Sandfest Central is located at Mile Marker 9.)
